The Grimsby Golf Club

Grimsby Golf Club held its first invitation Day on Saturday 23rd June 2007.
Part of the course had been under water most of the week due to the torrential downpours but the ground staff who did a tremendous amount a work on the days leading up to the event must have worked miracles because they got 17 holes open.
They all had a very early start on the morning of the event arriving for work at first light to get the course ready.
Members and guests who played the course were amazed with the way the course had held up to the horrendous conditions and the greens were playing as good as they have all year.
Competitors commenced their round at 7.30am in the morning and full field meant that the last pairing did not go out until 2.30pm in the afternoon. Guests from far a field took part with 35 separate clubs being represented.
The eventual winners with Richard Walker who played with his guest from Immingham Neil Phillips who won with 45 points.

In second place with 43 points was Grimsby member John Mawer who played with Mally Wood from Elsham

Although conditions varied during the day there was some excellent golf played because the course was playing its full length with very little run on the fairways and the competition was played of the white tees.
The Club Captain thanked the ground staff for their efforts in getting the course in such a good state on the day and he thanked those members who helped during the course of the day with starting, marshalling around the course and completing the master leader board. It was a great effort by everyone to make it such a memorable occasion for those that took part.
