The Grimsby Golf Club

The attached photograph was taken on Monday 26th April 2008 at Grimsby Golf Club when a Sportsman’s evening was held for charity.
The speaker was the famous ex Manchester Utd player and manager Wilf McGuiness who gave a splendid talk to a packed audience about his past involvement with the famous Lancashire Club and his involvement when he was training the England squad under Sir Alf Ramsey in 1966.
Wilf was an excellent speaker and kept his audience captivated by his many serious and humorous stories. The most poignant story being that he got injured the weekend before Manchester Utd were due to play in Munich in 1958 and he couldn’t travel for the match and hence was not on the plane when it crashed on take off at Munich Airport killing a number of players and journalists which made world wide news at the time.

Next is the Lady Captain Mrs Claire Coutts and far right is Dave Boylen the ex Grimsby Town player who arranged the evening in conjunction with members of Grimsby Golf Club.
Wilf was one of the famous ‘Busy Babes’ who obtained world wide notoriety but his career was cut short when he was in his prime due to a serious injury.
As well as being a very good after dinner speaker he still works for Manchester Utd, as do a number of ex players involved in the hospitality side of the club on match days and other events.
The club are raising money this year for the Captains charity which is the Children’s Hospice.
