The White Cup 1944
Presented in 1944 by Frank White whilst he was Club Captain. This mixed foursomes bogey competition is played on August Bank Holiday - then always the first Monday in the month - which proved to be a very popular occasion.
The terms of the competition were that there should be a draw for partners; many regret the change to choice of partners which was not the intention of the generous donor.
Winners 2007
The mixed 18 hole Foursomes
pairs par competition was held on Bank Holiday Monday 27th
August 2007. The competition is open for to all members and they
play for the White Cup. Half the full aggregate handicap of both
players is allowed.
There was a strong field of participants and the overall winners
were an uncle and niece relationship. Ian Coutts, partnered his
niece, Jemma and they had a staggering 10 under par for the
course, which made them runaway winners from the second place
couple of Tim Elvin and Gerry Scott who scored a creditable 5
under par.
The conditions were excellent for golf and the greens were as quick as anyone could remember. With the course now drying out after such a miserable summer with the floods and damp conditions the ball is running a long way and Jemma and Ian certainly took advantage of the circumstances and ran out easy winners of this very popular competition and format.
